The MIT Sloan Fellows MBA Program

Program info and tips

This global leadership development program is a 12-month, full-time executive MBA program designed to prepare an elite group of global mid-career managers to magnify their impact as leaders. Program starts in June.

MIT Sloan Fellows are experienced executives and mid-career professionals with a minimum of 10 years of work experience. They come from 30+ countries to spend one year in intensive collaboration while they earn an MBA or MS in Management or Management of Technology.

Program components:

  • Curriculum Design – a custom curriculum that integrates core courses, electives, team projects, and frank discussions with global leaders.
  • Teamwork – Collaborate with peers from 30+ nations to reach a greater understanding of leadership, global business, and yourself.
  • Faculty – Work with some of the world’s greatest industry experts on the issues that shape the marketplace.
  • Degree and Research Options – Review your options (one year MBA or SM): which degree to pursue and whether to write a thesis.
  • Action learning – Broaden your perspective and your experience of global leadership by working on real-world projects.

Admission requirements:

  • Academic and GMAT/GRE requirements
An undergraduate degree and GMAT or GRE is required. The GMAT/GRE may be waived if you have received a grade of “B” or better in multiple university-level quantitative courses in microeconomics, accounting, finance, or advanced math such as calculus, statistics, etc.
If you have not completed coursework that clearly meets this requirement, you must complete the GMAT or GRE exam.
Requesting a GMAT/GRE Waiver: To request a waiver, submit with your application, your transcripts outlining the course titles. If you are requesting a waiver, we recommend you submit your application early so you will still have time to take the GMAT/GRE exam if your coursework does not satisfy the waiver requirement.
  • English proficiency
If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate proficiency by taking either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the test provided by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Candidates who have attended an academic program conducted in English for one year may request a TOEFL waiver.
  • Résumé
Send a standard business résumé that clearly states the specific dates of your education and work experience.
  • Statement of objective and essays
Why is the MIT Sloan Fellows Program right for you? Tell us more about yourself in a statement of objectives, two written essays, and a 90-second video essay.
  • Recommendation letters
Two (2) professional recommendation letters are required. Once you have notified us of the names and contact information of your recommenders, we will send them an email with the link and instructions for submitting their recommendations directly into our online system.
Your recommenders should have an in-depth understanding of the MIT Sloan Fellows Program and speak to how the experience will benefit your professional and leadership development. The recommender should be in a position to provide firsthand observations about your performance and professional experience.
If you are a company-sponsored applicant, a recommendation letter must come from your direct supervisor or superior. The letter should describe how you were nominated for the MIT Sloan Fellows Program and what plan exists for increased or new responsibilities after your return to the organization.
  • Transcripts
Scan your transcripts and upload them as part of the online application. You must provide copies of your official transcripts from the undergraduate and graduate institutions where you earned your degrees or performed graduate work. Please have these records translated into English and US grade equivalents from an organization such as World Education Services. Please do not submit transcripts for short courses or certificate programs.
  • Funding letter
If you are a company-sponsored applicant, you must submit a letter from a principal executive in the organization indicating a willingness to provide you with a leave of absence and appropriate financial support.
  • Interview
An in-depth, in-person interview—by invitation only—is the final step in the application process. Only selected applicants who have completed their application will be considered for interviews. If you are selected for an interview, we will send you an invitation via email. Interviews are conducted mid-October through late-March in Cambridge and at various international locations (international interviews are typically held in January and February).
