Babson CollegeDue to constraints brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue our test-optional policy for the GMAT/GRE for all graduate applicants with a 2024 program entry. That said, you are welcome to submit a test score, and we’ll be happy to consider it as part of your application review.

Please note that quantitative and academic readiness is a large component of any graduate business program, and applicants who have minimal quantitative experience may want to submit a test score to help showcase their quantitative aptitude.

BC Carroll

Please note that full-time MBA candidates applying for Fall 2024 can request consideration for a GMAT/GRE waiver.

2023-24 GMAT/GRE Waiver Policy – Full-Time MBA applicants applying for Fall 2024, and Part-Time MBA and Part-Time MSF applicants applying for Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 can request consideration for a GMAT/GRE waiver.

Waiver requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Admissions Committee will consider applicants’ academic and professional accomplishments and credentials when evaluating requests. Applicants should note that the waiver review process is a holistic one, and criteria that could qualify an applicant for a waiver may include the following:

  • Three or more years of full-time work experience
  • A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • The possession of a terminal degree (JD, MD, or PhD)
  • A CPA or CFA designation, or additional professional certifications
  • Display of quantitative competency through undergrad coursework or expired test score
  • Display of quantitative competency through work experience

Considerations Before Submitting a Waiver Request:

  • Before submitting a waiver request, applicants are strongly advised to keep the following in mind:
  • The Admissions Committee will review GMAT/GRE scores as an additional metric during the allocation of merit-based scholarships
  • In cases where applicants’ GPAs or work experience fall below the average class profile, or candidates possess limited technical or analytical skills and experiences, submitting a GMAT/GRE score can demonstrate applicants’ aptitude for quantitative MBA coursework
  • Some employers, particularly in the consulting and banking industries, require the reporting of GMAT/GRE scores during the hiring process

BU Questrom

To request a GMAT/GRE waiver, you will first need to fill out our GMAT/GRE waiver request form.

Applicants to the Full-Time MBA program may request a GMAT/GRE waiver provided you meet at least one of the minimum qualifications listed below. The decision to grant the GMAT/GRE waiver is made at the discretion of the admissions committee.

You may not request a waiver if you have already taken the exam and requested your scores be sent to Boston University Questrom School of Business.

Please note: All candidates who are admitted to the Full-Time MBA program are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of admission. Because GMAT/GRE scores are one of the factors we take into consideration when making scholarship decisions, those who submit competitive GMAT/GRE scores will receive additional consideration.

On rare occasion, after granting a GMAT/GRE waiver, the admissions committee may ask a candidate to submit a GMAT or GRE score to aid in evaluating your candidacy for the Full-Time MBA program. If we need this additional information to complete our consideration of your candidacy, we will inform you after you have submitted the complete application and it has been initially reviewed.

GMAT/GRE waiver requests are only considered for application to the Full-Time MBA program. For Online MBA and Professional Evening MBA testing information, please visit the admissions website.

CMU Tepper

We believe standardized exams are one way that business programs gauge academic readiness; however, while many Tepper MBA applicants will submit a GMAT/GRE/EA score, we also recognize there are multiple ways to demonstrate academic readiness. This is the reason we offer a test waiver option.

Here is some guidance on our test waiver option:

Waivers will be granted on a case-by-case basis.
Waivers are evaluated on the basis of academic readiness for the Tepper MBA.
If you are granted a waiver by the Admission Committee, it does not signal admission to the Tepper MBA.
The admission decision will be based on a holistic review of the application.
Even if you are granted a waiver, the admissions committee may require or recommend additional academic preparation prior to the start of the program that will improve your academic outcomes.
Applying with a test waiver will not affect your eligibility for scholarship.
Upon submission of your application, the waiver request will be reviewed, and you will receive a response to the waiver request via email within 10 business days of the application deadline.

Cornell Johnson

Cornell Johnson is offering candidates of the Full-Time MBA 2023-2024 application cycle the ability to request a GMAT/GRE test waiver, without negative bias. Georgia Terry

The Full-Time MBA program considers select applicants for test score waivers. We evaluate waiver requests on a case-by-case basis for applicants with more than three years of relevant and progressive full-time work experience, active duty U.S. Military personnel with more than two years of service or those currently enrolled in another UGA graduate program. In addition, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria to qualify:

• A strong record of academic performance from an accredited U.S. institution
• An advanced degree from an accredited U.S. institution (graduate, master’s, professional degrees)
• Professional certifications with a quantitative focus (CPA, CFA, or other certification)
• Strong performance in previous analytical or quantitative coursework

Georgetown Mcdonough

Applicants who meet the necessary criteria may apply with a test waiver. If you believe that other components of your application demonstrate an above average level of quantitative aptitude which will make the admissions committee confident of your success in the rigorous quantitative coursework, then you may choose to submit a test waiver application.

Based on our experience, candidates who are most likely to be successful in the quantitative rigor of the classroom have one or more of the following as part of their profile.

  • Academic Grades: Undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.1 or greater in one of the following degrees or majors: business administration, science, engineering, technology, or math. Undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.3 in degrees or majors other than what is listed above. You must have your bachelor’s degree transcript evaluated via World Education Services (WES) if the degree was earned from a non-United States institution. The rigor and ranking of your institution and major will be considered along with your GPA.
  • Coursework: In our experience, the rigor of your quantitative coursework, the number of quantitative courses and your performance in those courses indicates probability of success in the MBA classroom. Applicants who have successfully received undergraduate or graduate-level quantitative coursework with a minimum grade of “B” or better in at least two rigorous (not introductory) quantitative classes (e.g. finance, accounting, statistics, calculus, advanced math, engineering, or physics) are preferred.
  • Certifications: CPA or CFA (or international equivalent) or other quantitatively rigorous certificates.
  • Work Experience: Significant post-undergraduate full-time work experience in a quantitative, mathematical, or analytical field where the majority of your job responsibilities require rigorous quantitative analysis. Please note that working in Excel and pivot tables for simple analysis does not qualify.
  • Demonstrated Grit: Professional and academic experiences that demonstrate grit and the ability to be successful in quantitative coursework.
  • Based on our review of your standardized test waiver, we could require additional proof of quantitative acumen, course syllabi, or request that you complete additional quantitative coursework, which could include requiring a standardized test score.

Submission Timeline: Once you submit your Test Waiver Application, you can expect a 1-2 week turnaround for decisions. For applicants targeting Round 2, submitting your Test Waiver Application by December 11, 2023, will guarantee a decision in advance of the Round 2 application deadline of January 4, 2024.

Process Overview: For those applying to the Full-time MBA program, there is a separate application for a test waiver. You must start (but not submit) an MBA application, then submit the test waiver application for review. You will be notified if you are awarded a waiver and then you may proceed with submitting your MBA application.

Requests should be submitted via the form below before you submit your application and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis within seven working days.

Indiana Kelley

The Kelley School’s Full-Time MBA program admits high-potential applicants into our academically rigorous curriculum. We typically require the GMAT or GRE as one demonstration of quantitative and analytic capability. In light of the recent challenges associated with taking standardized tests, candidates may apply for a waiver of this requirement and submit other evidence of their academic qualifications. We expect to award a limited number of waivers to candidates with otherwise strong qualifications. In evaluating waiver requests, we consider many factors, including rigor and achievement from previous undergraduate and graduate degrees, evidence of work experience requiring analytical and quantitative skills, and post–bachelor’s degree career growth including demonstration of leadership.

To request a GMAT/GRE waiver, you must complete the following two steps:

Complete and submit our online information request form (to ensure that we have your most current contact information); and
Submit via email (iumba@indiana.edu) a current professional resume, your unofficial or official undergraduate transcripts (and graduate school transcripts, if applicable), and a brief statement (300 words or less) summarizing why you believe you qualify for a waiver.
You should receive a response to your request within one week of submission.

Michigan Ross

The Michigan Ross Full-Time MBA program is a rigorous program. We offer candidates many ways to demonstrate that they are ready to meet its demands.
Test scores provide an additional, relevant data point for the admissions committee to consider in reviewing your application holistically. For some candidates, a strong test score can strengthen their candidacy.
You can submit the GMAT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, PCAT, or DAT. You may self-report your score on the application or upload unofficial score reports. If accepted, official reports will be required. If you take a test more than once, we will use your highest total score and the corresponding breakout scores in evaluating your application. We do not mix and match scores. All test scores must be active and not expired at the time of application. Students who are currently enrolled at U-M Medical, Law, Pharmacy, and Dental do not need to submit a test score.
Alternative Demonstrations of Academic Readiness
Some candidates may be able to adequately demonstrate their readiness for the rigor of the program without the need to submit a test score. This may include candidates whose ability to demonstrate their readiness via a test continues to be impacted by the pandemic or other circumstance. These candidates may submit a complete application without a test score. Instead, you must submit an essay that supports your case and alternative evidence of your readiness. We will look closely at your academic and professional accomplishments, including but not limited to:

• Master’s degree in an analytical or quantitative discipline
• CPA, CFA, or international equivalent
• Undergraduate or graduate record, especially in analytical or quantitative courses
• Post-undergraduate, full-time work experience in an analytical or quantitative function
• Performance on an expired GMAT or GRE
• Performance on the Executive Assessment

Candidates demonstrating multiple academic and/or professional accomplishments as listed above are more likely to be granted admission.

NYU Stern

The standardized test is a required part of the Full-Time and Fashion & Luxury MBA program application and one way we assess your academic readiness. For most applicants, the standardized test is an essential way to establish academic readiness. If you feel that you are not able to prepare for or take a standardized test and are able to demonstrate academic readiness without a standardized test score, you may request a standardized test waiver for the Full-Time and Fashion & Luxury MBA programs. Those who provide strong examples of academic readiness (eg: strong analytical or quantitative undergraduate or graduate majors, professional work experience, certifications, etc.) may be more likely to receive a standardized test waiver.

Rochester Simon

Simon Business School offers the option for candidates to apply without a standardized test score.

We share the same goal: for you to submit a standout application—but we know figuring out how best to proceed based on your individual candidacy can raise some questions. Here are the answers to several popular questions on this topic to help aid in your decision making:

Do I need to take the GMAT/GRE/Executive Assessment?

No—a test score is not required! It’s up to you if you would like to include this type of standardized test score in your application.

What if I have already taken an exam?

Check out our MBA class profile—if your score falls within or above the middle 80% range, we recommend that you submit it in your application as an additional data point for the Admissions Committee to consider. If you choose not to submit your score with your application, you won’t have the chance to provide a score unless you are invited to interview or added to our wait list.

What are the benefits of taking the GMAT, GRE, or Executive Assessment?

These exams support your application for MBA study and provide an assessment of verbal, quantitative, and analytical skills. Standardized test scores not only add dimension and bolster the competitiveness of your application relative to other candidates, but for some industries—such as investment banking and consulting—prospective employers may prefer to see a score while reviewing your candidacy. In addition, we recommend taking the GMAT, GRE, or EA to demonstrate your quantitative capabilities if you have limited exposure to math or business courses in your undergraduate education. For some candidates, the submission of a standardized test can also boost overall candidacy for scholarship consideration.

Will I be considered for merit-based scholarship if I submit without a score?

Yes! Simon’s review for admission and scholarship consideration is holistic—meaning that no one element of the application outweighs another in importance. Applications submitted with or without a test score will be evaluated for scholarship based on rigor of undergraduate studies, proficiency in quantitative courses, certifications such as CFA or CPA, relevant work experience, undergraduate GPA and major, and more.

How do I indicate I would like to waive the GMAT/GRE/EA?

Do not add a GMAT/GRE on the Test Scores page in the application. Instead, select “Yes” in the dropdown beneath the question “Are you choosing to waive the GMAT/GRE/Executive Assessment requirement?” Our application processors will take care of the rest.

Ultimately, submitting your application with or without a GMAT/GRE/EA test score is up to you! If you still have questions about the best approach for your individual candidacy, schedule a time to chat with an Admissions team member—we would love to connect with you.

UCLA Anderson

While test scores provide an additional, relevant data point for the admissions committee to consider, a test score is not required. Applicants are given the option to apply for the Full-Time MBA program without submitting a GMAT, GRE, or EA. It is up to the applicant to decide if they want to apply with or without test scores. Please note that for some candidates without a quantitative background, a strong test score can strengthen their candidacy.

You must submit an essay that provides evidence of your MBA readiness to support your case of applying without a test score. Professional certifications, such as CPA, CFA, or international equivalent

USC Marshall MBA

For the 2023-24 admissions cycle, the Full-Time MBA Program is providing candidates the option of submitting a standardized test (GMAT or GRE) waiver request. Please review a description of the policy and process below and visit the Test Waiver Requests section of our FAQ page for more detailed information. If you are applying using The Consortium application, please review the Consortium Application information below for additional information on the test waiver process.

Test Waiver Policy:
The Marshall Full Time MBA Program allows for the submission of a request for a standardized test (GMAT or GRE) waiver. Only applicants who have applied to the program may request a waiver. In order to make the request, please use the Test Waiver Request Essay of the application to describe your rationale and make a compelling case for the request. Finally, you should review and consider carefully the following guidelines before making the request:

– Standardized tests provide the Admissions Committee with some evidence of a candidate’s ability to perform academically in the MBA core curriculum. Test scores also serve to provide an indication of English language capability. The basis for your waiver request – and your response to the Test Waiver Request Essay – should be grounded in a record of exceptional academic achievement that includes demonstrated mathematical preparedness. While professional experience can be included as a component of the waiver request, the Admissions Committee will most strongly consider two elements:

1) overall academic achievement and

2) performance in quantitative coursework.

– Applications – with or without test scores – will be reviewed holistically.
– The decision to grant or decline a waiver request should not be viewed as a signal of the ultimate admissions decision.
– Waivers will not be considered if an applicant has not submitted a complete application including uploaded copies of a résumé and all official academic transcripts.
– Test waivers will be granted on a case-by-case basis.
– Decisions on waiver requests are final, and Marshall will not respond to requests for re-consideration.
– Test scores serve as one consideration in merit-based scholarship decisions.
– Some employers may consider test scores in their evaluation of job applicants.

Note: If a test waiver request is approved, the Admissions Committee will not consider test scores that are submitted at any point in the cycle when rendering the admissions decision.

Test Waiver Submission Process:
With the exception of candidates who are applying through The Consortium, only candidates who have applied to the program can submit a waiver request. The process requires two steps (Note: Failure to complete both steps may result in a deny decision.):

Step #1 – Submit a complete application that includes a résumé, all academic transcripts, and a response to the Test Waiver Request Essay (included in the application). In addition, you should respond affirmatively to the question in the application that asks if you are submitting a test waiver request.

Step #2 – Upon submission of the application, you must alert the Admissions Committee of your test waiver request by submitting an email to FTtestwaiver@marshall.usc.edu. This will allow us to respond to your request in a timely fashion. The subject line should read “Test Waiver Request – Application Submitted.” Please include your First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, and USC CAS ID# (located in the top right corner of your online application) in the email, so that we can easily locate your file.

USC Marshall IBEAR

The subject line on the email should read: “Request for Test Waiver – Application Submitted.” We will review your case and respond by email to your request for the waiver within 10 business days. Finally, you should review and consider the following guidelines before making the request:

Standardized tests provide the Admissions Committee with evidence of a candidate’s ability to perform academically. The basis for your waiver request should be grounded in a record of exceptional academic achievement that includes demonstrated mathematical preparedness. While professional experience can be included as a component of the waiver request, the Admissions Committee will most strongly consider two elements: 1) overall academic achievement; and 2) performance in quantitative coursework.

Applications – with or without test scores – will be reviewed holistically.

The decision to grant or decline a waiver request should not be viewed as a signal of the ultimate admissions decision.

Waivers will not be considered if an applicant has not submitted a complete application including uploaded copies of a résumé and all official academic transcripts.

Test waivers will be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Decisions on waiver requests are final, and Marshall will not respond to requests for re-consideration.

Test scores serve as one consideration in merit-based scholarship decisions.

Some employers may consider test scores in their evaluation of job applicant.

In the absence of a GRE/GMAT/EA score, in addition to completing the Test Waiver essay, please be prepared to demonstrate in your application one or more of the following:

– A strong undergraduate and/or graduate record in analytical coursework or disciplines

Vanderbilt Owen

Applicants interested in being considered for a test waiver must start an application and complete the test waiver request form.

Candidates are encouraged to submit their test waiver request at least two weeks prior to the application round deadline to allow time to evaluate your request.

Applicants who demonstrate multiple examples of academic and professional accomplishments are more likely to receive a waiver. Examples of relevant quantitative success include, but are not limited to:

  • strong performance in previous quantitative and analytical coursework at the undergraduate or graduate level,
  • five or more years of professional work experience with proven analytical experience, and
  • earning a CPA or CFA certification or additional professional certification.

There are some important factors to consider before requesting a test waiver:

  • We are unable to offer a test waiver if you have already submitted a self-reported or official GMAT, GMAT Focus, GRE, or EA test scores to Vanderbilt University.
  • Applicants are evaluated for a test waiver one time per cycle and we are unable to accept appeal requests.
  • Ensure you are putting together the strongest application. Consider whether a test score can be used as an additional data point to showcase your academic potential.
  • There are some employers who may request a test score as part of their MBA hiring process. This is particularly true in industries such as consulting or finance.
An approved test waiver is not an admissions decision or an indication of an admissions decision.
